Fur Felt

Choose from a broader selection of material qualities and colors.

We work with different qualities of two “weights” of Fur Felt: Dress Weight (DW) and Western Weight (WW). Dress Weight is a lighter more flexible material ideal for Fedora styles and smaller brim Western styles. Western Weight Fur Felt is a thicker, heavier material ideal for cowboy hats and other styles that require a stiff brim. Western Weight is also typically more expensive, because more fur is used to reach the desired thickness and consistency.

  • Western Weight versus Dress Weight

  • Pure Beaver versus Blended Beaver

  • and color.

Pastel colors go through more processing than darker colors and prices reflect that.

Due to material shortages, please call for color and material availability.

There are also a few style enhancements that can be requested for an additional charge:

  • Pencil Curl ($100) A curl around the edge of the brim that is applied with a rounded Shakel Iron.

  • Tecate Curl ($100) Also a Pencil Curl but only applied to the sides of the brim leaving the front and back of the brim open.

  • Oversize Brim ($100) Brims over 4 1/4”. Limited availability.

  • Ribbon Bindings ($200) Ribbon that is applied around the edge of the brim. Available in several colors and widths.

Fur Felt Qualities

Super Premium

Manufactured in Portugal, our “Super Premium” line is the best raw felt material we have found in our many years of experience. With the qualities we find in the raw body we are able to produce a hat we consider shows our years of experience and the best offered in the industry.
